Poem for Higher Public Education Rally at SFSU

Never put my poetry out here like this...so here it goes:

Students shouldn’t have to race for an open space

Especially for classes that they for damn sure didn’t mean to take

The budget cuts got classes rolling deep

Civil engineering, Nursing, and computer science majors

Fighting for a seat

in Raza Theatre? Wow!

Week 3

An educational crisis overload

Where are the teachers? Oh they got furloughed

But not without our money though

Oh and,

excuse me if this poem doesn’t

Sound so artsy or academic

I’m a creative writing major

But the Man thinks were too expensive

So my classes are getting cut

And my metaphors are going downhill

Like California’s economy that was brought

Down from the clowns of

Sacramento’s Capital hill

My professor couldn’t even

Find a decent marker

For the white board today.

So should he shop for

markers on his own expense?

Is that what he should be doing

On the next fuck you—

I mean furlough day?

I’m pretty sure he isn’t

In the end it won’t make that much of a difference

even if he does buy those markers and gets a payback

it won’t make up for what the students lack

and sadly the educational system is getting worse

Even if he does buy those markers

it’s not like our whole day of a missing out

on his chance of spreading some

education could ever be reimbursed.

Note: I haven't made an end rhyming poem for a minute, I hope I did justice to the SFSU Rally for Higher Public Education expectations.
